Report: Change rate

What is it?

Thsi report calculates the variation in the value of an index between two dates and generates maps and graphs of:

  • Change rate: is the difference between the index values on the selected dates, divided by the number of days elapsed between one date and the other.
  • Index Difference: Shows the direct result of subtraction between the index values on the selected dates.

What are possible uses?

In case of vegetation indexes (NDVI, NDRE, SAVI) this report is useful to measure the impact of specific events that can modify the evolution of the index, for instance:

Negative Change Rate (-): the index can decrease between two date due to hail, fire, frost, wind, herbicide applications, damage due to phitotoxicity, etc.

Positive Change Rate (+): The index can increase between two dates due to foliar fertilization, for example.

Here are some examples of the use of this report:

  1. Compare maturity of different hybrids, planted on the same date: with the Rate of Change (TC) report we can verify and quantify an outstanding characteristic in one of the hybrids, such as its ability to mature earlier, which generates rapid drying of the grain and therefore is reflected in a decrease in plant vigor.

NDVI 05 Abril 2019 – 1er. date selected for analysis

NDVI 10 Abril 2019 – 2nd. date selected for analysis

Exchange rate: although the whole field has a negative exchange rate (decreasing vegetation index), in the southern sector the change is more pronounced, indicating the presence of the early maturing hybrid.

2. Assess damage from falling hail: With the Rate of Change (TC) report, it is possible to quickly assess the impact of a hail storm on a farm, which can be very useful as a reference for guided tours or for insurance claims.

NDVI 12 Diciembre 2019 – Before the hailstorm

NDVI 21 Diciembre 2019 – After the hailstorm

Rate of change: reddish colorations indicate crop damage

How is it generated?

Use the Reports tool, and select the Exchange Rate and Differences Report.

Select the index you want to use to measure the change. Next, select the batch to evaluate.

Choose the dates you want to evaluate, and finally click on “Generate”.
